4 Australian resources to help kids understand Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by everything you’re hearing about coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) right now.

It’s also understandable if your children are feeling anxious, too. Children might find it difficult to understand what they are seeing online or on TV – or hearing from other people – so they can be particularly vulnerable to feelings of anxiety, stress and sadness.

We’ve found some good resource links to help you through from fact sheets, to videos for Kids!

1. Australian Childhood Foundation

resources that we hope can help parents and carers manage some of the stress and help explain things in a way that children can understand.

Resources include posters, A-Z Activities for at home with family, stories on how to explain Coronavirus to children, and ideas to help manage worry and anxiety

2. Emerging Minds

A curated selection of resources will assist parents and carers to best support their children and reduce worry and distress.

It contains a video, factsheets and tips about what you can expect and how you can help children cope.

3. Australian Parents Council

The Australian Parents Council have put together useful advice, support and resources to help you navigate the disruption and keep your kids learning and safe.

4. Constable Care

For WA based and produced resources targets at both primary and secondary aged students, there's nothing better than Constable Care.

They're created a range of video resources that are free for schools, parents and the community. For primary school students, the videos are produced in an entertaining broadcast style format with education modules and activity-based learning.

Their website isn't the most user friendly, but their content is great to persevere!
