Feel Good Friday with Steve and Mike

Steve Scanlon and Mike Hyder are two Albany based musicians who have performed together for many years in a number of different bands. They are best known locally through their playing with Crossbow, a fiddle based high energy band, and first played together with Well Strung, which was an original instrumental band. Mike is a well-known violin player throughout the southwest, who is known for his teaching and influence on young players as much as well as his playing. He co-founded Just Fiddling to nurture a sense of fun for violin students and to introduce them to fiddle music outside the classical world. Mike has been an important part of the local classical music scene, performing regularly with the Albany String Quartet and Albany Chamber Orchestra.

Steve Scanlon is an Irish musician who has made Albany home. Steve taught himself to play guitar in the seventies and has a strong background in Irish folk and traditional music. Since moving to Albany over twenty years ago, Steve has been involved in a number of musical combinations. Best known locally as guitarist with the Celtic influenced Crossbow, Steve has also played at some stage with other local bands including Powderkeg Reunion, Reverend and the Deathhbed Conversions, Well Strung and Just Fiddling, as well as playing in duos with various musicians. Steve’ and Mike’s current repertoire includes traditional and original instrumental music played on fiddle, acoustic and classical guitars along with a range of songs including many from the sixties and seventies and some Irish folk songs. Steve and Mike will be playing a live set for Feel Good Friday on 22nd of May at 6pm. Tune into the City of Albany Arts and Culture Facebook Page!
