Wave Energy Research Centre

The Wave Energy Research Centre was established by The University of Western Australia and the WA Government – Regional Development – with headquarters in Albany since early 2018. The Centre aims at being a knowledge hub in innovative ocean engineering research, to support renewable energy developments and to promote the excellent wave energy resource off the Great Southern coast to international industry. Since June 2019, the historic railway station on Proudlove Parade operates under the name ‘Great Southern Marine Research Facility’ as an extension of the Albany university precinct and home to the Centre headquarters with a growing team of experts. The official Open Day was held on 1 November 2019, and the Facility has hosted public and school outreach events – welcoming visitors across demographics and backgrounds such as six-year-old Scouts and the Katanning Deadly Girlz. The Centre collaborates with the City as part of National Science Week in the Great Southern.
